Looking Back to Move Forward: Creating Personal Goals for the New Year

Happy New Year, I hope that this email finds you at the right time in your life. We are half way through the first month of 2024 and you may still be excited for the goals you have set, or the hopes that you have for the coming year… or those might already be a back burner thought. We want to take the next few weeks to take you through a 3-Step process to help you reach new levels in 2024 and enjoy the process along the way!

Step 1: Reflection: Because you can’t know where you’re going if you don’t know where you’re at, and where you’ve been.

Step 2: Create Process Goals: Now that you know where you want to go, let’s create actionable goals that will help you get there.

Step 3: Enjoy the Process: It may take time to get to where you’re gong so let’s increase your odds of making it by enjoying the process along the way.

Step 1: Reflection

Two weeks into the new year and it’s a great time to reflect on last year. We are past the hustle and bustle of the holidays, and “normal” life seems to be making a comeback. looking back at 2023, start by asking yourself what 3 things you accomplished and celebrate those wins! What are 3 lessons that you learned?

Life can be big and messy, and those questions might be overwhelming. So let’s break it down a bit. In each area of your life, ask yourself where your at (on a scale of 1-10). Then write out where you want to be, and one massive action you can take to start moving in that direction:

  1. Health & Body: (1-10), (Where do you want to be?), (One massive action)

  2. Emotional, Spiritual & Personal Growth:

  3. intimate Relationship:

  4. Social & Fun:

  5. Family & Friends:

  6. Work & Career:

  7. Money & Finances:

  8. Community & Giving:

Roni and I love this last action of reflecting on where we are at in each area of our life and continue to revisit it quarterly. Roni came across this exercise in her “Daily Greatness Journal” 5 years ago and it has been a mainstay in our lives ever since.

Take the time this week to reflect so that you know where you are at. If you saw our post last week, we highly recommend sitting down with some snacks and a comfy drink (alcohol not required!) and knocking it out over a few hours. This can also be done by spending 15-20 minutes on each area per day. There is no right way, so just “get’er done”!

Keep an eye out for next weeks email where we will talk about those massive actions you want to take, and we will guide you to making them daily tasks and skills!

Yours in health and fitness,

Bryan and Roni
